Accident claims two lives

29 Dec 2021

Police have warned motorists against disobeying road traffic signs, which behaviour leads to unnecessary accidents.

This follows a fatal accident that claimed two lives along Mmathethe-Metlojane road on December 27.

In an interview with BOPA, Good Hope Police Station commander, Mr Batshwari Gaobatlelwe said the deceased were passengers in a Hilux bakkie, which collided with a five tonne truck.

He said according to the truck driver, the bakkie did not yield for a stop sign when crossing the road.

Mr Gaobatlelwe noted that the Hilux bakkie had three passengers, adding that the driver was in a critical state and was rushed to Gaborone's Princess Marina Hospital the same day.

The station commander expressed concern about some drivers' tendency not to adhere to speed limits, especially on internal roads.

On other issues, he said his policing area had been quiet for most of the Christmas holidays, save for the above-mentioned accident.

Mr Gaobatlelwe also commended locals, saying although there was a music festival that attracted a large crowd with artistes from the neighbouring South Africa, no major incidents were recorded.

He said even the house break-ins seemed to have gone down as no report had so far been received.

In Phitshane Molopo, station commander, Mr Thusego Kenyafetse said his office had recorded a case of a missing person, a four-year-old boy who went missing on December 27 and was found the following morning.

Mr Kenyafetse said the boy was found in good health and was reunited with family.

He urged parents not to leave their children unattended, especially during this time of the year when Molopo River was overflowing. Ends
