PSLE results show slight decline

The 2021 Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) results released yesterday show that overall performance of candidates obtaining credit grades (Grade C or better) went down by 1.16 per cent from 73.15 per cent in 2020 to 71.99 per cent.
A Botswana Examinations Council (BEC) media release says out of a total of 46 984 candidates who sat for the examination, 8 748 (18.62 per cent) obtained Grade A, 8 814 (18.76 per cent) Grade B, 16 261 (34.61 per cent) Grade C, 9 383 (19.97 per cent) Grade D and 3 702 (7.88 per cent) Grade E.
The release says almost all candidates, 99.84 per cent, qualified for the award of a grade.
Stating that the 23 486 female candidates outperformed their 23 498 male counterparts in all subjects, it says the percentage of candidates obtaining Grade A has remained at the same level though with an insignificant decline of 1.49 per cent from 20.11 per cent recorded in 2020.
With regard to Grade B, the release says the proportion of candidates obtaining the grade has also remained at the same level with an insignificant increase of 0.14 per cent from last year’s 18.62 per cent while Grade C also experienced a slight increase of 0.19 per cent from 34.42 per cent.
The proportion of candidates at Grade D increased insignificantly by 0.80 per cent over last year’s figure while Grade E also registered an insignificant increase of 0.38 per cent, says the release.
It says the 2021 cohort showed a two per cent increase in candidature over last year’s 46 063. Ends
