19 Dec 2021

Maun -Sub-land Board has allocated 912 plots out of its target of 2 746 allocations this financial year.

Tawana Land Board chairperson, Mr Emanuel Dube revealed the information at press conference in Maun on December 16.

He said the sub-land board’s waiting list stood at 37 221 for residential plots and 10 000 for agricultural land.

He said allocations that were achieved for the whole Tawana Land Board jurisdiction, which included Maun, Sehithwa, Nokaneng, Gumare, Shakawe and Seronga sub-land boards was 2 124 plots out of a target of 5 652.

He, however, noted that allocations were still ongoing.

Mr Dube noted that in addition to the target of plots to be allocated in the current financial year, some plots were approved for Shakawe, Gumare and Seronga sub-land boards, which approval led to an increase of available plots to 8 680.

Tawana Land Board, he said, was in the process of allocating about P310 business plots; 200 for Maun Sub-land Board, 30 for Sehithwa, 33 for Nokaneng and 46 for Gumare sub-land board.

Mr Dube said business plots were expected to be allocated during the fourth quarter of the current financial year.

He observed that there were some plot layouts that were approved and awaiting Strategic Environmental Assessment, while some were being surveyed, which would increase land to be allocated going forward.

Tawana Land Board, he said had demarcated about 50 livestock ranches at NG 5 (between Kuke and Setata fences).

He said priority in allocation of the ranches would be given to people who owned boreholes around the area.

He pointed out that the land board faced challenges in land allocations in that some people failed to honour board meetings because they had changed addresses without noticing the land board while some were non-accessible even thorough Facebook.

Mr Dube said some people were rejected since they already had plots as per the Botswana Land Policy of 2019.

He also said that the land board halted allocations between July and August due to COVID-19. ENDS
