Morupule Coal Mine gifts DHMT

Morupule Coal Mine (MCM) has extended a helping hand by donating two vehicles, two porta cabins and oxygen concentrators to the Serowe/Palapye District Health Management Team (DHMT).
When receiving the donation in Palapye on Tuesday, the minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Edwin Dikoloti thanked MCM for giving back to the community in which they do business.
Dr Dikoloti said the Serowe/Palapye DHMT was blessed as it was not common to be showered with gifts of this magnitude, especially during this difficult economic time.
He said the mine came with the right donation, at the right time as COVID-19 had really strained health resources and the health sector in general.
He said such good Samaritans were important partners in helping the ministry to continue caring for the nation, despite challenges of this time.
Dr Dikoloti said the donation would greatly contribute to the success of response in the Serowe/Palapye DHMT area and assured the mine that the good they were doing for the community would not go unnoticed.
He implored them to continue with the good spirit and encouraged other to the emulate the mine.
Minister Dikoloti, who is also the Mathethe/Molapowabojang Member of Parliament urged all Batswana to also do their part by always following COVID1-19 protocols, saying ‘it is through this that we will eventually defeat this pandemic’.
When handing over the donation, the Morupule Coal Mine General Manger, Mr Edwin Elias said they were committed to acting with compassion and integrity in ensuring that their contribution to the growth and development of Botswana was recognised and impactful.
Mr Elias said hence, the board and management of the mine found it befitting to approve the procurement of health equipment worth over P700 000, for donation to Ministry of Health and Wellness. He also said they had extended support to education, safety and health, culture and heritage, sports and recreation, as well as the social welfare of the community within which they operate.
He said they also donated P2 million towards the private sector vaccine fund, in support of the national vaccination campaign.
Mr Elias pledged that in case of a surge, Morupule Coal Mine would finance the recruitment of two laboratory technicians and two data capture clerks, to assist to speed up the test process.
He said the government was working tirelessly to ensure prosperity for all and Morupule rallied behind the effort.
He challenged the public and private sector to join hands to help government transform this country to be a moral, tolerant and inclusive society that provided opportunities for all by 2036.
When giving a vote of thanks, Palapye MP, Mr Onneetse Ramogapi thanked MCM for always helping the community of Palapye and the surrounding areas. ends
