06 Dec 2021

As part of celebrating 100 years of its existence in Botswana, the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) on Saturday donated school shoes, socks, toiletries and school uniform to Middlepits and Khuis primary schools in the Kgalagadi south region.

The church donated 213 pairs of shoes, 215 pairs of socks, two shirts, toiletries and a pair of trousers to Middlepits while Khuis Primary School received 200 pairs of shoes and 374 pairs of socks and toiletries.

Speaking during the donation ceremony held at Middlepits, president of South Botswana Conference of SDA, Pastor Boitirelo Kabo said the church embarked on charitable works to enhance learning in the Kgalagadi District.

The church started at Kanye, where it built a hospital.

Pastor Kabo noted that it was not their first donation in the district, adding that they had donated television sets, which were installed at Werda Library, and computers to Tapologo Junior Secondary.

He said the church continued to make an impact in the communities within which it existed, adding that every year they chose to minister through deeds rather than preaching only.

Pastor Kabo said giving was the best form of ministering and dignifying the poor and the vulnerable.

He said it was critical to preach righteousness to encourage the spirit of generosity which people must live by as a matter of principle.

The gesture, he said, was meant to demonstrate God’s love through faith. He said while highlighting the importance of standing united, ‘be your brother’s keeper.’

Women Ministry South Botswana conference representative, Ms Bakang Moatlhodi said SDA Church made it a norm to identify critical societal challenges and ills and sought ways to deal with them.

She said assisting the vulnerable and the needy was central to their spirituality.

Ms Moatlhodi said after making thorough assessments, they chose to assist children as part of community development at Middlepits and Khuis.

She said that Christianity was about positive deeds and they wanted to meet the children’s needs by touching their lives.

The donations, she said, were from members of the SDA Church in the southern part.

For his part, Middlepits’ Kgosi Setlamaruping Moseki said SDA had in the past donated to his village, thus he appreciated them for retracing their footsteps.

He said the area was poverty stricken, hence the donations would go a long way in meeting the parents half way when schools reopen in January.

Kgosi Moseki said improving education results was not only about a child entering a classroom and listening to the teacher.

Member of Parliament for Kgalagadi South, Mr Sam Brooks appreciated the donation, which he said would go a long way in improving the children’s livelihoods.

He appreciated the gesture, which he said would sow a seed in children.
MP Brooks encouraged parents to nature the seed to build strong future generations of children who were raised well. Ends
