06 Dec 2021

Absa Bank has  donated 13 water tanks with a carrying capacity of 2500 litres to Stepping Stones International. The tanks will be distributed to residents of Good Hope and surrounding areas.

The donation by Absa would address some of the critical pillars of the country’s transformation plan which amongst others is to provide inclusive and shock responsive social protection services.

This was said by Southern district council, vice chaipreson, Mr Sonny Phiri when giving a keynote address on behalf of Mr Eric Molale, MP for Goodhope-Mabule.

He said the local government and rural development ministry’s area of responsibility was to foster local democracy while also promoting social welfare and economic empowerment of disadvantaged groups.

Mr Phiri said  that community development remained one of the ministry’s top priorities.

He said government continued to call upon the private sector to step up in supporting local communities and improving the lives of Batswana, saying Absa must be commended for their effort.

He pointed out that Absa bank has over the years contributed to the development of local communities and made a difference in the lives of the less fortunate.

Mr Phiri said the donation would enrich the lives of local communities by assisting them to become more self-reliant.

Corporate Director of Absa bank Botswana, Ms Lesley Bradley said the donation was in line with their citizen agenda of addressing the needs of their clients and the communities that they operated in.

She said it was  a deliberate move in making positive and impactful changes in the communities as they aim to stimulate social and economic upliftment.

Ms Bradley also said that it was an indication that they recognised that access to clean water was not only a basic need of mankind but a necessity to sustain all forms of life.

She revealed that before the end of the year, they would have donated a total of 60 water tanks to various communities across the country, adding that they were confident that the tanks would ensure not only easy access to water but an efficient and regular water supply to the recipients.

Ms Lisa Jamu, the chief executive officer of Stepping Stones International concurred with Ms Bradley that the water tanks would help alleviate shortage of water in the locality.

She said they appreciated their partnership with Absa as they had over time worked together in the past. ENDS
