Public Private Partnerships remain paramount in achieving government’s goal of uplifting the lives of Batswana.
As such all those who volunteered their time and resources to assist the less privileged in the society or those confronted by dire situations such as natural disasters deserved to be commended for their efforts.
The Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration Mr Dumezweni Mthimkhulu said this on Friday at Salajwe during a house donation by Kweneng Council Trust to Ms Tshwaro Tlhokamatlho and her family.
The trust, a community social responsibility arm of the Kweneng District Council handed over a two- roomed house built at a cost of P50 000 to the family.
The assistant minister said had it not been the effort of the Trust, the family would not be receiving the newly built house which would restore their dignity and peace.
He commended the business community, in particular the Chitanda family for heeding the call by the Council Trust to join hands in building the house.
The assistant Minister said, “the spirit of giving and volunteerism should be encouraged and nurtured as life becomes more difficult and unpredictable.”
When giving the project overview, Kweneng Council Trust chairperson Mr Charles Keikotlhae said they became aware of the family through Botswana Television news broadcast and were moved to take action. He said through the help of other stakeholders they identified the family and solicited support towards the construction of the house.
Mr Keikotlhae further said the Trust does not have money but depended on Good Samaritans for them to carry out their projects. He profoundly thanked the main sponsor the Chitanda family who agreed to provide materials for the house from foundation to the roof level. The recipient Ms Tlhokamatlho profusely thanked the trust and all stakeholders for their spirit of kindness.
Speaking on behalf of his family and company, Mr Emmanuel Chitanda said they were happy to have helped the family, as it had always been their desire to extend a helping hand.
He said he was grateful for the opportunity to bless those in need as he believed that businesses should help communities among which they operated.
Member of Parliament for Takatokwane Constituency Mr Tshoganetso Leuwe said he was happy that the dignity of the family has been restored.
He thanked the Kweneng council Trust for their sterling job in reaching out to needy members of community. Mr Leuwe pledged P1000 for the construction of the toilet. Ends
