SA Dj Maphorisa Sir Trill disappoint fans

30 Nov 2021

Fans of Pretty Girls Love Amapiano show were left calamitous as the show, which promised international acts, did not honour the promise.

Pretty Girls Love Amapiano was staged on Sunday at Royal Aria stadium, with South African acts Dj Maphorisa, Kabza De Small and Sir Trill scheduled to perform in the afternoon.

As early as 2pm, fans had started gathering at the stadium, hoping to catch a glimpse of Sir Trill, who was to perform at 1430, Dj Maphorisa at 1515 and William Last KRM at 1730.

However, the performances did not start until around 1700, with a local act, Latonde N Names taking to the stage.

The 2021 Yarona Fm award (YAMA) winners of Dibulele song fame, however kept the fans entertained.

But to the surprise of fans, Dj Maphorisa and Sir Trill were nowhere near the venue, to give the patrons value for their money.
In his Instagram handle all day, Dj Maphorisa was updating on his scheduled show at the upmarket Konka, to the surprise of Batswana fans, who were anxiously waiting for him.

Nonetheless, Botswana’s William Last KRM did not disappoint, when he took the stage around 1900.

The Tinto smash hit maker displayed why he bagged two nominations for the 2021 South African Hip Hop Awards (SAHHAs).

Dressed in black, Motsetserepa, as he is affectionately known to his fans, gave the audience value for money and demonstrated that local artists had what it takes.

In interviews, fans and industry players who paid P200 for the no show of two headline acts, expressed disappointed and unhappiness.

“It is an insult to Batswana, especially that a lot of Batswana have been complaining about bringing artists from outside,” stated fashion designer Mothusi Lesolle. He expressed disappointment that the organisers could not even tell the fans why the artists had not arrived.

He said most Batswana have called on promoters to assemble and stage local artists as they are not only cheaper, but they are available.

Lesolle urged promoters to own to their mistakes and said the right thing to do in this situation is to refund the patrons

Local artist, Kabelo Oanthata also did not hide his disappointment, saying the packed stadium was an indication that Batswana can support their own, but also said there was need to robustly take Botswana to the world.

Kemiso Slim, a fan who came all the way from Jwaneng, said it was disappointing as the event started late, with no communication as to what was happening.

“It is disrespectful to us because now the Djs are playing artists’ songs, whilst we are waiting for the artists to come and perform,” Slim said.

Another fan who opted to be anonymous said she was not happy and felt tricked because the artists whom she came for did not perform.

But, all was not lost as Kabza De Small and Zakes Bantwini performed. Godwin ‘Exzotic’ Sebina of Exzozo Entertainment had previously said starting events during the day was to instill a culture of day events among the fans. ENDS
