28 Nov 2021

First National Bank of Botswana (FNBB) staff has embarked on an initiative to partner with Kuto Primary School in Kanye to develop education.

Speaking at a donation of sanitizers and masks to the school on Friday, the bank’s application and support analyst Mr Tebogo Matiwaza said the staff dubbed FNBB volunteer group donated to meet the school community at their point of need to enhance and facilitate the learning process.

He argued that education enriched people’s understanding of themselves and the world and therefore it was against the backdrop of the significance of education that they found it fit to donate to the school.

He shared that education would improve the pupils’ quality of life and lead to a broad social benefits to individuals and society, adding that education raises people’s productivity and creativity and promoted entrepreneurship and technological advancement.

“Development refers to growth or positive change.

Every entity aspires to grow and develop, starting from an individual to the entire society, thus what comes very crucial to that is acquiring knowledge and skills to support development,” he noted.

He opined that socially competent individuals were better adjusted and adaptable and willing to accept diversity and changes in life and learning.

Giving a background of the project, he said they were indebted to the community because they had a social responsibility to morally and ethically respond to the needs of the community.

That is why they came across Kuto Primary School and pondered on how best they could assist the school.

Given that teachers were dying from COVID-19, Mr Matiwaza said, they decided to help save the teachers’ and the school communities’ lives.

He said they joined hands as staff,  pointing that the donation marked the beginning of good things to come through the partnership.

He said the journey was expected to bring developments and upturn the school’s competitive edge.

He said they wanted to fill performance gaps in schools, arguing the donation would save lives and help the school to observe COVID-19 protocols.

Mr Matiwaza said FNBB had footprints everywhere and the donation was an extension of the ‘aesthetic’ work.

Appreciating the donation, Kuto Primary School head, Ms Betty Matshediso said the development of education during the Fourth Industrial Revolution era and building of a knowledge-based economy remained paramount.

She thanked the bank staff for recognising the significance of education, adding that the school would never be the same as the donation would also add value to the wellbeing of the school fraternity.

She said the  sanitizers and masks would help frustrate the transmission of COVID-19 within the school community and beyond.

She told FNBB staff that words were never enough to describe the quality of assistance they offered. BOPA
