Orange Botswana on Friday donated ICT devices to Patayamatebele Primary School in the North East District.

The donation comprises 50 tablets, 50 headsets, 2 servers, a laptop, a projector and screen.

Ministry of Basic Education regional director operations, Mr Labane Mokgosi commended Orange Botswana’s gesture, saying that the gadgets would help the learners as they were fully packed with syllabus content for standard 5 to 7.

He said the gadgets would motivate learners and help improve results, adding that they would also enable pupils to learn independently at their own pace.

Orange Botswana Sales and Operations director, Mr Sipho Ntebang said the company had been supporting government to implement the Education and Training Sector Strategic Plan (ETSSP) since 2018.

Mr Ntebang said the gadgets would improve the pupils’ digital skills as well as improve general learning.

Councilor for Ramokgwebana, Mr Godfrey Smile said ICT had made learning easy as research could be conducted with ease.

He said when they started teaching during their time, the main source of learning was a teacher and if the teacher was not available, there was no education.

Cllr Smile observed that there were two forms of learning being, the teacher centered approach and the learner centered approach.

“ICT reduces workload as many sources can be contacted on the web in a short space of time. ICT creates interest in learning, makes one work fast and it is user friendly,” he said. Ends
