A crime-free environment is necessary for the nation’s peace and stability, it’s socio-economic development, and assures freedom from fear and violence as well as safe neighbourhoods, Commissioner of Prisons

Ms Dinah Marathe has said.  Officiating at Kgatleng Ministers Fraternal gender-based violence workshop in Rasesa on Wednesday, Ms Marathe said to achieve governance, peace and security as set out in the National Vision 2036 there was need for all to condemn gender based violence.

She said President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi’s reset agenda focused on people, and the church as the body of Christ should also prioritise its services to serve Batswana through the Word of God.

Ms Marathe said Botswana Prison’s Services was mandated to provide effective rehabilitation to offenders through reintegration programmes, a role that the church should actively play especially with a view to encouraging reconciliation and acceptance.

Presenting gender-based violence statistics, Mochudi Police Station Commander Superintendent Smash Mokoba said between October 23 and November 23, the police registered 9 rape cases, 5 cases of defilement, 15 assault cases, 5 cases of common nuisance, and 1 case of malicious damage to property.
