Four perish in road accidents

Sejelo Police in Kanye are investigating three separate car accidents that claimed the lives of four people between Saturday and Monday.
According to Assistant Superintendent Ernest Sesinyi, a 43-year old biker was hit by a Mercedes Benz on Saturday morning at the Sejelo police traffic lights. He said the rider sustained head injuries and was later certified dead at Kanye Seventh Day Adventist hospital, while the two occupants of the vehicle were unhurt.
He said preliminary investigations indicated that the 48-year old driver, who was arriving in Kanye from Jwaneng, failed to stop at the intersection as expected when traffic lights were not operational.
Consequently, the driver will be arraigned before court for causing death by dangerous driving once post-mortem results are available.
In another incident, Assistant Supt. Sesinyi said two male passengers who originate from Ramotswa died when the driver of the BMW they were travelling in lost control of the vehicle along the A2 road after Moshana turn-off in the early hours of Monday.
He said the Jwaneng-bound vehicle had five occupants and preliminary investigations gathered that the two deceased men were thrown out of the car and sustained injuries.
The officer said the 36-year old driver sustained an arm fracture and was still recovering at the hospital, while the other two passengers were treated for minor injuries and discharged the same day.
In yet another accident that took place on Monday morning, a middle-aged man was certified dead at KSDA hospital after his Citi-Golf collided with a Honda Fit along the A2 road at Kgwatlheng ward in Kanye.
Assistant Supt. Sesinyi said the deceased was with two passengers, who were treated and discharged the same day, while the driver of the other vehicle and his passengers escaped unhurt.
Asst Supt Sesinyi said police investigations indicate that the 36-year old driver of the Honda Fit left his lane to face oncoming traffic, causing the head-on collision.
He also noted that the latter would be arraigned before court once post-mortem results were released.
Asst Supt Sesinyi appealed to motorists to obey traffic signs and confine their speed to the permissible limit to avoid accidents.
He also urged motorists to always be cautious and be responsible on the roads even in the absence of traffic police. ENDS
