Botswana Post has injected over P7 million to revamp and build new post offices across the country in an effort to enhance service delivery.

Botswana Post communication manager, Ms Tshepo Maphanyane confirmed the developments in an interview noting that the  project was aimed at  improving service delivery to their clients.

In addition, she said the project was in line with their strategic objective of creating and preserving Post Office values. Ms Maphanyane said Maun Post was amongst those who were revamped to make it a one-stop-shop for a varied portfolio of products and services.

The improvement of the structure, she said added construction of public toilets, a conference room and expansion of the main office to create more space for customers. She also pointed out that the facility also housed the latest product offering electronic service kiosks named VTM which is the first of its kind in Botswana.

Ms Maphayane said the roll out of the VTM was part of a larger project with an international consultant to pilot Virtual Teller Machines in Botswana in five different locations across the country namely; Seronga, Francistown, Gaborone, Palapye and Maun.

The 24/7 machine, she said would offer customers the opportunity to engage with the post at their convenience and have access to services outside of the usual trading hours.

The VTM , she said would offer services such as prepaid electricity purchase, airtime sales vouchers, airtime sales -pinless, DSTV subscription payments, post box renewals, posomoney, mobile Vend Top-ups, insurance Premiums, just to mention a few.

“This machine will empower our customers to carry out postal services in a faster, reliable, and secure manner. This is BotswanaPost’s role in the financial inclusion agenda for the unbanked and under-banked. The VTM will be rolled out in two phases,” she added.

Ms Maphanyane further noted that they had digitalized all processes in an effort to bridge the gap between the post and other service providers.

Meanwhile, to mark their milestone, she said the minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Thulagano Segokgo would officially open the newly revamped Maun Post on Friday  .

As part of the programme, she said Botswana Post chief executive officer, Mr Cornelius Ramatlhakwane would also present the 2020/21 integrated report.
