08 Nov 2021
Botswana Teachers Union (BTU) recently held a financial wellness clinic to provide its members with financial literacy and education.
Officially launching the clinic in Mahalapye, BTU president, Mr Gotlamang Oitsile said a healthy workplace was productive hence the need to equip BTU members with financial literacy.
Mr Oitsile explained that lack of financial literacy skills could lead to poor spending choices and increased debt, which may lead to someone facing imprisonment and/or loss of employment amongst others.
He urged BTU members to fully participate in the clinic as it was tailor made for their benefit. BTU national treasurer, Mr James Poshudi said the welfare of its members remained a top priority, adding that they believed that education was a primary ingredient in solving all problems, hence its motto: “We educate”.
Mr Poshudi said the union equipped its members with skills to manage money wisely, as a way of achieving financial freedom. He thanked Letshego, which is the financial sponsor of the clinic and IGNYT wealth, who offer literacy and counseling services.
Legal adviser at Directorate of Public Service Management (DPSM), Mr Tefo Bogosi said the financial wellness clinic was an exciting development that came at the most appropriate time and commended BTU and its sponsors for efforts aimed at improving financial literacy. He said without proper practical and applicable knowledge on financial literacy, there was a high likelihood for one to struggle to attain financial stability, regardless of how much they earn.
Mr Bogosi urged members of the BTU to take advantage of the clinic. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Letshego, Mr Fergus Ferguson and director of IGNYT wealth, Mr Seatla Ratshosa graced the event.
