Tsiang calls for teamwork

04 Nov 2021

Government media workers serve one government and must cooperatively use the meager resources available to do more to bring critical information to the people. Deputy Permanent Secretary Government Media Mr Oshinka Tsiang said this during his visit to Information and Broadcasting services offices in Serowe on Wednesday.

Mr Tsiang who accompanied the President, Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi to Serowe kgotla on Tuesday took the break in the President’s programme on Wednesday to address staff.

He said it was only in teamwork that staff of the two departments could be motivated to go on; for teamwork served as a bonding agent that fostered cooperation and magnified strengths, while it also effectively addressed weaknesses.

He said it therefore, followed that any team building effort should encourage partnership rather than struggle.

He urged the two departments to arrange for team-building activities. ‘’Good teamwork comes from practice and understanding, so you should consider having team-building activities to foster more collective work environment.

“People work faster and better in teams. Most people also prefer to work in a team, rather than as isolated individuals’’, he said. Mr Tsiang noted that teamwork could increase safety,

improve effectiveness, strengthen communication, and boost morale. ‘’A well-functioning team has officers who work together and off each other, improving each other’s ideas and actions’’, he said.

Mr Tsiang advised supervisors to treat every officer equally and fairly and show concern for everyone’s personal welfare.

He urged employees of the two departments, to share in the spirit of teamwork costs, infrastructure, transport and other resources available towards service of the public, particularly “in this era of belt-tightening exacerbated by COVID-19”.

He also called for prudent use of financial resources and overtime, which he said must be carefully monitored. The DPS said officers must carry out their duties to the best of their abilities, all the while keeping in mind President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi’s reset agenda, which if followed properly could address many of the challenges faced by the public service.
