Letlhakeng council spends 55.1 per cent of budget

03 Nov 2021

Delays in high value tender awarding for maintenance of buildings and council vehicles has led Letlhakeng Sub-district Council to spend only 55.1 per cent of its total budget for the financial year 2021/22.

When officially opening the sub-council session on Tuesday, chairperson, Mr Meshack Tshenyego said as at October 31, the actual expenditure stood at P62.9 million out of a budget of P114.1 million.

He said expenditure from the recent procurement of school books and equipment had only been committed on the ledgers, but were yet to be captured in the financial system.

The sub-council chairperson, who is also councillor for Mantshwabisi/Serinane, said the council had not been doing well in collecting revenue from own sources as only P669, 560.84 from a budget of over P3.3 million was collected.

Mr Tshenyego added that collections were made mainly from the sale of matimela and staff housing rentals, both of which were not doing well.

He further said their expenditure trends were worrisome as it meant service delivery had been compromised, adding that measures had to be put in place to remedy the situation.

The sub-council chairperson reminded councillors that together with other creditors, Letlhakeng Sub-district continued to wait patiently for the liquidation of Bluthorn Fund Managers to conclude and for them to hopefully recover the P15 million investment.

He said the fund managers failed in their bid to stay for the implementation of the liquidation judgment and everything was now in the hands of the liquidator to recover and distribute proceeds to all those owed by the company.

Mr Tshenyego said Kweneng District Council submitted a claim of over P16.4 million to the liquidator, an amount that represents the P15 million principal amount invested and interest. Ends
