The Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Security is open to suggestions from Bogosi on new ways to improve letsema in an effort to attain food security and self-reliance in the country.
This was said by Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Mabuse Pule in response to a motion tabled by Kgosi Oscar Mosielele of Moshupa region before Ntlo Ya Dikgosi on Friday.
Kgosi Mosielele’s motion sought to request government to partner with Bogosi to achieve food security and self-reliance through Letsema and other related activities.
Mr Pule indicated that the ministry had long partnered with Bogosi on matters relating to improving agriculture production in the country.
“This has been facilitated firstly through assigning frontline extension workers (balemisi and bakenti) to the lands and cattle posts as an immediate step to ensure extension messages are passed to the farmers. The achievement of this has always relied on the partnership we have with Bogosi,” he said. Secondly, he said the ministry continued to communicate its programmes through Kgotla meetings, Botswana Television Tsa Temo Thuo, Molemi Ithute, Pitso ya Balemi and others where in most cases Bogosi participated over and above the farmers who would be featured. Mr Pule was responding to the motion on behalf of Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security, Mr Karabo Gare. BOKHUTLO
