Hunhukwe among proposed service centres

12 Aug 2021

Hunhukwe was among the proposed service centres under Hukuntsi Sub-district, says Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Mabuse Pule.

Answering a parliamentary question recently, Mr Pule said the ministry had however been unable to achieve plans to designate the village a service centre due to budgetary constraints.

He indicated that Hunhukwe village currently served as a cluster centre and had the third largest population of 931 from Hukuntsi to Lehututu and offered minimal services.

“The services are and not limited to tribal administration, primary health care, primary education, Social and Community Development or protection, including RADP, police service and veterinary services,” he said.

He added that Hunhukwe as a cluster centre catered for Maake, Monong, Ncaang, Ukhwi, Zutshwa and Ngwatle settlements.

In terms of transport, he said Hunhukwe village kgotla had a Land Cruiser vehicle which was boarded in June this year.

“As a result of this shortage, tribal administration is assisted by a council vehicle stationed at Hunhukwe Primary School hostel. Funds permitting, the vehicle will be replaced in the 2022/2023 financial year,” he said.

He further indicated that the Ministry of Transport and Communications continued to grade roads connecting settlements.

“For the month of July, they graded Hukuntsi-Monong, Lehututu-Hunhukwe, Lehututu-Maake, Monong-Ohe and Monong-Maake,” he said, adding currently there were no licensed public transport operators within the area.

He also told Parliament that mobile health service to Hunhukwe was undertaken by a doctor from Hukuntsi monthly.

MP for Kgalagadi North, Ms Talitha Monnakgotla, had asked the minister to state services that government offered in Hunhukwe village.

The minister was to also state the criteria used for neighbouring settlements to access services in Hunhukwe in terms of road infrastructure and transport. Ends
