Bilateral games enhance relations

15 Oct 2013

Zimbabwean Matebeleland Prisons Services head of delegation, Milous Jomane has said bilateral games between the two countries are aimed at creating lasting friendship and interaction between the officers.

Speaking at the closing ceremony for the games hosted by Botswana Prisons Services northern division in Francistown, Jomane noted that although there would always be a winner in sports, the desire to win should not override the purposes of such games namely to create friendship.

Such games, he said, should afford officers opportunity to share ideas and experiences from their respective stations. “We might be doing the same thing but our experiences from our duty stations will always remain different so let us share such experiences and learn from one another,” he said.

He thanked his Botswana counterparts for organising the games. Earlier on when welcoming the delegates and team Zimbabwe, northern division's Senior Assistant Commissioner of Prisons, Sherly Oageng said prisons officers were usually focused on their duties of rehabilitating prisoners, and has little time to de-stress.

She hoped the games would encourage the officers to engage in wellness activities and once focus on themselves and learn new things that will help them to do their work better. Meanwhile Zimbabwe won all the games winning netball by 71-16 scores, football 3-1 as well as tug of war 2-0. Ends
