Fire destroys Serowe Hotel

Serowe Hotel was on Tuesday night destroyed by fire.

Serowe police station commander, Superintendent Poloko Oteng, explained in an interview that police went to the scene around 9pm after they received a call from Serowe Hotel.

He said the fire, which had already damaged the kitchen, dining room, reception area, offices and conference room, was controlled by fire department.

Supt Oteng said Botswana Police Service fire experts based in Palapye were investigating the cause of fire and a full report was expected on July 19.

Mr Kitso Monageng from Serowe Fire Department said they did not have details as to what could have caused the incident.

The owner of Serowe Hotel, Mr Warrick Rencken, said although  cause of fire had not yet been established, the hotel had experienced a severe loss of property.  

According to one of the employees who did not want to be named, they were working a night shift when they saw smoke coming from the kitchen and they immediately pressed panic button.

The employee said fire quickly spread to the dining room, reception, offices and conference room. Ends
