Mr Balopi said the ministry was in the process of filling all the vacant positions, adding that relevant trade qualifications and a teaching certificate were a prerequisite in order to qualify for appointment as a lecturer or instructor in vocational technical colleges and brigades.
At the moment, he said, 874 lecturers had been trained in the area of their specialty of which 748 possessed teaching qualifications.
He said the remaining 126 lecturers were currently undergoing training to acquire teaching certificates.
Again, Mr Balopi said three lecturers were also on training to acquire the said teaching certificates in the Mahalapye West constituency.
Currently, he said, there were 98 temporary employees at the ministry, out of which three were employed in the same constituency.
He added that instructors for VTCs and brigades were recruited through the graduate database manned by the Directorate of Public Service Management (DPSM).
Mahalapye West MP, Mr David Tshere, had asked the minister to state how many positions for VTC and brigade instructors were vacant nationwide, particularly in his constituency.
Mr Tshere also wanted to know how many instructors had been trained as well as how many temporary employees were employed as instructors at VTCs and brigades nationwide and in his constituency.
Further, the legislator wanted to know how many of the temporary employees were occupied by qualified instructors at VTCs and brigades as well as the criterion used to employ post-graduate instructors at such institutions. ends
