Members of the public have been encouraged to refrain from applying for loans at loan sharks as this contributes to increase in crime rates.

Superintendent Onneetse Dumelang warned that loan sharks often broke the law as they kept their customer’s ATM cards and had direct access to their accounts. He added that this sometimes led to conflict situations as the loan sharks could withdraw the customers’ funds without consent.

Superintendent Dumelang was speaking at Letshego Holdings’ “Kgatelopele” promotion, where two clients won themselves a washing machine and a micro-wave oven.

For her part, Ms Mmapula Kablay, Sales Officer at Letshego’s Molepolole branch, said Letshego had introduced new products such as the Thuto Loan and the Flash Cash Loan which are all tailored to improve the lives of Batswana. Ends
