Police V shine

06 Oct 2013

Women’s basketball league champions, Police V registered their 13th successive victory of the season with a 111-64 trouncing of Botho University Ravens on October 5. The victory at the sun baked SSKB courts helped Police maintain their pole position in the league with 26 points.

After 13 wins from 13 matches played so far, Police look on course to successfully defend their title as the season winds down. They completely dominated their encounter against Ravens with Police captain Andie Banyaditse the star of the show.

She led from the front with a total of 24 points as her team dismantled their struggling opponents who are now second from the bottom on the six-team league. She scored 15 of them in a dominant first half when Police established an unassailable 65-20 lead.

Although Ravens raised their game after halftime, even managing to steal the third quarter with 27-22, the damage was already done by a sloppy first two quarters display. Kemmonye Madikwe, Kelebogile Thwabi and Kesaolopa Motswagole were other outstanding performers in a perfect attacking display by the Police women.

Police were handing Ravens a humbling defeat for the third time this season after their first two league showdowns ended in 117-26 and 98-27 score lines. They are now two points ahead of second placed BDF V. In the other women’s match at the SSKB the University of Botswana Relics coasted to a 58-38 victory over fourth placed Dolphins.

The victory saw Relics with 23 points continue breathing down on BDF V’s necks in a battle for a top-two finish, which would guarantee qualification for the women’s national championships. The men’s encounters saw fourth placed Police defeat bottom-of-the-log Warriors 81-41 on October 4 night. Warriors were registering their 14th loss of the season from 14 matches played.

Police were then beaten 61-55 by Flames in a closely contested match on Saturday. BOPA
