LEA MilkAfric empower dairy entrepreneurs

The Local Enterprise Authority (LEA) and MilkAfric, a milk processing company, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) through which the two entities will empower young dairy entrepreneurs.
A press release said through this agreement, an anchor dairy farm in which LEA and MilkAfric had developed a comprehensive national dairy pilot out grower scheme in the Lobatse area, would model all dairy farming requirements.
The release said milk shortage was a serious challenge as there were only 5 000 lactating cows in Botswana out of the 15 000 milking cows needed to meet the 61 million litres of milk in demand annually in Botswana.
Furthermore, it stated that both parties at the signing ceremony acknowledged that the partnership between the two and all the involved partners beckoned the dawning of a new era for the dairy industry and affirmed their commitment to ensuring a long and fruitful relationship.
MilkAfric was established in 2010 in a bid to throw weight behind the emerging dairy industry in Botswana.
It was formed through a radical vision, to create a totally new food system that would deliver high quality, certified local food to consumers through strategic growth, smart partnerships and sound management. Ends
