No plans to relocate boreholes affected by expansion

16 Feb 2021

Parliament has been informed that there is no planned relocation of boreholes which had been affected by the growth of Charleshill village.

The Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Kefentse Mzwinila said that was so because the growth projectory of the Charleshill-Makunda Development Plan of 2012-2036, was such that Kangomeeue borehole would not be affected by the two villages’ expansion.

Mr Mzwinila said the other two boreholes, Kahauapeke, which is 3km from Tshabanoga Ploughing fields and 5.4km from the village and the Utwi borehole which is 4.1km from Makunda Agric Holdings and 8.6km from village, despite the expansion of the villages until 2036, would still have the minimum 3km radii from the ploughing fields.

Responding to a parliamentary question on Monday, Mr Mzwinila noted that the 3 km distance of Kahauapeke borehole from the ploughing fields came as a result of a court order to reserve such distance, which had since served as guidance in new masimo demarcations.

The minister further pointed out that there was no time frame as there was no proposed relocation of the boreholes in question.

Mr Mzwinila also indicated that he was aware that the expected distances of the borehole from the village was 10 km and the distance from borehole to ploughing fields was 3 km.

Ghanzi North MP, Mr Motsamai Motsamai had asked the minister if he was aware that Charleshill village had expanded to the extent of reducing the grazing pastures of nearby Kahauapeke, Utwi and Kangomeeue cattle posts.

Mr Motsamai also wanted to know if it was not prudent as a matter of urgency to relocate those cattle posts to places where they would enjoy the 6km radius grazing.

He also wanted the time frame for such proposed relocation. Ends
