Shortage of available land delays allocation
03 Feb 2021
Acute shortage of readily available land has contributed to delays in land allocation including infill plots in Nkange constituency.
Responding to questions in Parliament, the Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Kefentse Mzwinila said delayed development of detailed layout plans, as well as shortage of funds for compensation, contributed to delays in land allocation.
Mr Mzwinila said the last allocation by the land board in Nkange was in 2015.
Nevertheless, he said, the ministry was coming up with ways to speed up land allocation including allocating un-serviced and minimally serviced land.
He reiterated that residential plots would be planned and surveyed before allocation, as such waiting lists would be maintained where necessary.
“Currently, a total of 1 075 plots are being surveyed in Nkange constituency and this includes Changate 96 plots, Makuta 181 plots, Senete 196 plots, Tutume/Madandume 483 plots, and Matobo 119. The allocation of the same is planned for the fourth quarter of the next financial year 2021/2022,” he said.
Also, Mr Mzwinila said three layouts of Maitengwe 450, Goshwe 521, and Nswazwi with 177 were at the draft stage while base maps were being prepared at Dagwi and Nkange.
He stated that the waiting list of Tutume Sub-land Board stood at 16 688.
Nkange MP, Dr Never Tshabang had asked the minister if he was aware of the frustration caused by the non-allocation of land in infill plots in the Nkange constituency. ENDS
