The Parkistan Association of Botswana has donated spectacles and walking sticks to more than 80 elderly people in Shoshong.

Speaking in an interview shortly after the donation on January 24, Pakistan Association of Botswana chairperson, Mr Ishtiaq Raja said the donation formed part of the 63 programmes that the association had embarked on since its inception in 2018.

“We have embarked on this charity initiate to give back to the society. We serve three categories which are facing challenges and also more important to us, namely; the health sector, education sector and the elderly,” he explained.

“We also donate wheelchairs, blankets in winter and do feeding programmes. Charitable activities requires sacrifice, so we encourage our members to sacrifice their time to give back to the society,” observed Mr Raja.

Before donating spectacles, Mr Raja said eye screening was conducted to ensure the right spectacles were dispensed to every patient.  Of the over 80 who were screened, he said five were referred to the hospital for eye operation.

He said the association also chose to donate walking sticks to the elderly who needed them.

Mr Raja noted that as people aged, most of them required special support to balance when walking and standing up hence the donation of walking sticks. ENDs
