The Vice President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane, has urged dikgosi to desist from taking part in politics.

Speaking during official closing of Ntlo Ya Dikgosi capacity building workshop in Gaborone on January 22, Mr Tsogwane said dikgosi should stay away from politics to enable them to serve their communities with dignity and fairness.

He said politics could be a source of disunity within the tribe.

Bogosi, he stated, was a unifying institution entrusted with community development roles, while politics were by nature divisive hence need for dikgosi to remain neutral.

Mr Tsogwane awarded dikgosi certificates for completing the five-day training workshop.

Meanwhile, Ntlo ya Dikgosi deputy chairperson, Kgosi Tshipe Tshipe, said ‘kgosi is for the whole community not for a certain group of people’.

Kgosi Tshipe also called on his colleagues not to be involved in politics saying that would divide communities.

He said dikgosi were a pillar of stability and custodians of morality.

For his part, Botswana National Productivity Centre (BNPC) acting general manager, Mr Teedzani Majaule, said poor work ethics and lack of productivity remained Botswana’s main economic challenge.
