Measles campaign starts February
24 Jan 2021
A Nurse at Otse Clinic, Mr Goitsenna Makhaza says there will be a nationwide measles campaign from February 1 to 12. He told Otse residents during a measles campaign meeting at Lesetlhana Clinic recently that all children from nine months to fifty-nine months would receive the measles-rubella vaccination.
He therefore, made a plea to Otse residents to bring their children for vaccination against Measles rubella, which he described as deadly.
Mr Makhaza said the Measles rubella cases were higher in the Sub- Saharan countries and affected children mostly.
Therefore he said the decision to vaccinate the children was taken to protect them against the highly contagious disease.
A Health Officer in the Ministry of Health and Wellness, Mr Johannes Ramphaleng said the disease could be spread through the air.
He said some of its signs and symptoms included headache, rash, eye infection, and fever, adding that it could lead to death in some cases. Mr Ramphaleng said the country could have rolled out the campaign in November last year, but the plan was disrupted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Nonetheless, he said a decision has been made that the campaign be rolled out, adding that the country undertook the campaign every three years. ENDS
