Ntlo ya Dikgosi has donated P181 356.75 to COVID-19 relief fund. The money was a contribution by all Dikgotla in Botswana.
Speaking during the handing over of the donation, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Eric Molale applauded Dikgosi for heeding the president’s call to donate towards COVID-19 relief fund.
He indicated that the donation showed that Dikgosi were concerned about wellbeing of their communities.
Mr Molale highlighted that Dikgosi set an example to their communities and that they had shown that leadership was about serving the people.
Minister Molale advised Dikgosi to avoid using persuasion strategy towards communities in an effort to fight the pandemic but rather be strict since lives were now lost in large numbers.
For his part, Kgosi Puso Gaborone of Batlokwa who is also the chairperson of Ntlo ya Dikgosi indicated that the donation was meant to assist the government in the fight against COVID-19, adding that last year Ntlo ya Dikgosi also donated towards the fund after the President’s call for donations towards the fight against COVID 19.
He highlighted that after the first donation, they then decided to involve other Dikgosi who were not members of Ntlo ya Dikgosi, in an effort to unite all Dikgosi in contributing towards the fund. “Today’s donation is made up of contributions from Dikgotla across the country,” he added.
Noting that the number of COVID deaths were increasing Kgosi Puso, it was now time for the nation to unite and fight the pandemic as one force.
Dikgosi, he said could not turn a blind eye to matters that affected the nation such as COVID 19 hence their donation, adding that since the outbreak of the virus different Digkosi had been working with committees in their respective villages to fight it. ends
