21 Jan 2021

Molepolole North MP, Mr Oabile Regoeng has briefed his constituents on the policies and bills passed during the last Parliament session.

Speaking during a kgotla meeting in Molepolole on Wednesday, Mr Regoeng said the land policy was amended to give married women the right to be allocated plots.

The MP said the amendment  was caused by the fact that some men sold their properties and left their families homeless.

Another amendment, he said, allowed Batswana to use half of their arable fields to establish income generating projects.

Mr Regoeng also said the National Arts Council Bill had been passed to regulate the creative industry.

He also briefed them on the declaration of assets and liabilities bill, saying it was aimed at curbing corrupt practices and illegal accumulation of assets.

He also said senior public officers and politicians had to declare their assets and liabilities.

The MP also briefed constituents on the floor crossing bill, saying it discouraged elected politicians from leaving their political parties.

He explained that by-elections would be held when elected members of Parliament and council left the political party they were voted for.

This, MP Regoeng explained, was meant to protect the interests of the electorate.

The Molepolole North MP also talked about the Sexual Registration Bill, saying it would be accessible to the public.

He also advised micro-business owners to visit the Local Enterprises Authority (LEA) for financial assistance, noting that government had established an industry support facility to help businesses which have been affected by the COVID-19 lockdown.

He also noted that the support facility could be accessed through LEA, Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA) and Botswana Development Corporation (BDC).

Residents complained about lack of water in their area, bad roads and the lack of a stormwater drainage system. They also requested streetlights or tower lights in their area. Ends
