Residents want Ditshipi gazetted
19 Jan 2021
Member of Parliament for Maun West, Mr Dumelang Saleshando has called for an exemption for Ditshipi settlement to be gazetted.
In a meeting with Ditshipi residents this week, Mr Saleshando said there has to be a waiver for settlements such as Ditshipi although there was a policy that guided the gazetting of settlements.
He said it was worrisome that all settlements under Bojanala ward, which include Ditshipi, were not gazetted. He said it made it difficult for the area to have developments.
He said the settlement should at least have a primary school with lower classes so that children could stay closer to their parents instead of schooling in Maun as was the case.
North West District Council chairperson, Mr Kebareeditse Ntsogotho said Ditshipi was a big settlement with many people, and that council had decided to seek a waiver for Ditshipi to be gazetted, adding that it would help bring developments.
Mr Ntsogotho said the council had prioritised five villages and settlements for two teacher schools with Standard One and Two classes.
He said Sexaxa and Khwai schools were complete while the Jao school was nearing completion. He added that Ditshipi and Boro schools were yet to be constructed and that the council did not have funds.
Presenting the settlement’s issues, Ditshipi deputy guides chairperson, Mr Bogale Manga called for a waiver to have Ditshipi gazetted.
Mr Manga said although the settlement had a mobile clinic, health services were not provided for months. He requested that a nurse should be based at the settlement.
He said residents also requested a two teacher school as pupils schooled as far as Maun. Ends
