Selebi Phikwe taxi operators decry curfew

17 Jan 2021

The Selebi Phikwe Taxi Association has expressed concern about the curfew that was imposed to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 amid the surge in cases.

Speaking in an interview recently, the association’s representative, Mr Goabamang Sesinyi lamented that the curfew had crippled their business.

Mr Sesinyi said although they acknowledge that it was a necessary measure, the decision had negatively affected their sector and the small business sector.

He explained that business was normally low during the day and increased during afternoon hours, which, he said, was good for business. He suggested that the curfew should start at 9pm to allow them to service all their passengers.

Mr Sesinyi said the association was yet to meet to map the way forward. Ends
