MP lures investors

14 Jan 2021

The MP for Kgatleng East, Mr Mmusi Kgafela says he is negotiating with several investors to construct a hospital in Mochudi through the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Speaking during a consultative meeting with the village leadership in Morwa and Pilane on Wednesday, MP Kgafela said he took the decision after construction of the hospital was ejected from the National

Development Plan 11 (NDP11) due to budgetary constraints.

He said they were looking for the best method of partnership and promised Bakgatla that he would not mortgage their land nor the country, adding that his negotiation team comprised of people with various qualifications amongst them lawyers and financial advisors.

MP Kgafela said he could not just fold arms as the hospital project would result with spin-offs, including construction of Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC) houses in Morwa.

He said BHC, which is under his portfolio as the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing Development, was waiting for the hospital to be built in order to take advantage of amenities such as road networks, electricity connection, water reticulation and waste water management.

The minister said he wanted to focus in those developments as the construction industry would also provide employment opportunities.

MP Kgafela also promised to do everything in his power to ensure that the commercial building in the heart of Mochudi, known as Mochudi Wholesalers, became operational.

He said he read the judgement passed by the courts which instructed the owners of the building to negotiate with Kgatleng District Council. ends
