Police investigate drowning incident

Police in Kasane are investigating an incident in which a 41-year-old woman of Kgosing ward in Thamaga drowned after a boat carrying 13 people capsized in the Chobe River on Sunday.
In an interview with BOPA on Monday, Kasane Police Station Commander, Superintendent James Maabong said 11 passengers, who were relatives from Thamaga; and the boat operator, were rescued by passerby boats, while the woman went missing.
Supt Maabong said the body was found on Monday at around 8am, with the assistance of the Botswana Defence Force Scuba Divers, Botswana Police Service, Department of Wildlife and Medical Rescue.
He said the woman was taken to Kasane Primary Hospital where she was certified dead.
Supt Maabong said there were no injuries, but five of the passengers were treated for shock and discharged.
He said the deceased’s next of kin have been informed. ends
