Internet challenge hampers work in Selibe Phikwe schools
16 Dec 2020
The assistant minister of Basic Education, Ms Nnaniki Makwinja says poor internet connectivity has posed challenges to the use of Oracle Human Capital Management System in the Selebi Phikwe schools.
Ms Makwinja said this had affected efficiency in human resource management and resulted in delays in capturing staff information relating to transfers and promotions as schools captured such information manually and relied on the sub-region to update the system.
She, therefore, said vacancies that had already been filled may appear open in the system.
Ms Makwinja further said reconciling leave days for staff took long and sometimes delayed the processing of terminal benefits.
The Oracle System is an employee database maintaining basic information about employees and managed by Directorate of Public Service Management (DPSM).
She said her ministry has developed a plan to install high-speed internet and replace old equipment in all schools by the end of 2023, funds permitting.
She clarified that Selebi Phikwe Schools would benefit from the initiative, which would facilitate the training of users of the system.
She further said her ministry had been included in the piloting of a module on leave management which would assist schools to manage staff leave.
The assistant minister was responding to a question from Selebi Phikwe West MP, Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse who had asked if she was aware of the challenges presented by Oracle Human Capital Management System in the Selebi Phikwe schools.
Mr Keorapetse further wanted to know the nature and extent of the problem as they related to human resource management issues such as transfers, promotions and other related matters. ENDS
