Police in Maun are investigating an incident in which a 10-year-old boy was hit by a Ford Ranger model vehicle at Xhwexhwa catlepost between Komana and Maun on December 10.
According to Maun Police station commander, Superintendent Chenamo Orateng, preliminary investigations showed that the driver of the Ford Ranger tried to avoid hitting a donkey cart by swerving to the left side of the road as there was an oncoming cart, and allegedly hit the boy who was by the side of the road.
Supt Orateng said the boy was taken to Komana clinic then rushed to Letsholathebe Memorial Hospital where the doctor certified him dead.
He said the 36-year-old driver was therefore facing a charge of causing death by dangerous driving.
Supt Orateng said both the driver and a passenger who was accompanying him did not sustain any injuries.
The vehicle was from Maun going towards Komana.
Further, Supt Orateng appealed to motorists to drive with care and at appropriate speed.
He also urged donkey cart owners to use reflectors especially at night to be visible to other road users. ends
