Botswana Gujarati Samaj has donated wardrobes and drawers worth P60 000 to Ramotswa School for the Deaf, which is a centre under Botswana Society for the Deaf.

The donation is made up of 15 steel wardrobes and 15 steel drawers to be used by learners. Receiving the donations, deputy school head, Ms Khutsafalo Jabatho said the donation would come in handy for the school.

 She said the school accommodated  learners with hearing challenges from all parts of the country, adding that currently, there were only two such centres in the country.

Ms Jabatho said the school was faced with shortage of resources since it was run by a non-governmental organisation, Botswana Society for the Deaf.

Therefore, she said any donation towards improving the wellbeing of the leaners was appreciated.

Besides the limited resources, she said the community used sign language, yet were taught the same syllabus as pupils from the mainstream society.

Such, Ms Jabatho said contributed to underperformance by those with hearing challenges. 

The school also offers vocational education such as home economics, leather works and gardening.

 Botswana Gujarati Samaj chairperson, Mr Gaurang Daila said the association had existed in Botswana for the past 25 years and performed various charitable deeds in the country to help those in need.

He commended efforts by Ramotswa School for the Deaf and expressed the need for such centres around the country.

 “I am pleased by the job done by the school and teachers.

Teaching is a profession, but this is more than just a profession,” said Mr Daila. 

He further commended the school system for having produced teacher aides. 

Magopane area councillor, Ms Maria Motshwaedi thanked Botswana Gujarati Samaj for the gesture. 

She said such was the result of compassion, love, selflessness, unity and great harmony.

Councillor Motshwaedi said the generosity would impact the lives of the children and create memories. ends
