In his endeavor to boost small stock production in the country, President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi continues to donate high quality bucks and rams to small stock farmers in various constituencies.

The President recently donated a Kalahari red buck to Ms Remono Maundo, a Tsodilo based small stock farmer.

Dr Masisi said such was meant to improve the quality of Ms Maundo’s breed.

He said as a leader, he was mandated to ensure the uplifting of Batswana’s lives in many ways, hence the small stock initiative, adding that the initiative was also in line with Vision 2036 as it would stimulate economic prosperity.

Dr Masisi encouraged Batswana to venture into small stock farming and take it seriously as well as to commercialise it, as there was availability of market with high returns.

He said small stock was easy to breed, easy to take care of and also easy to improve quality, therefore Batswana should embrace the small stock initiative.

Assistant Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security, Ms Beauty Manake said farming could take many people out of poverty.

She therefore encouraged Batswana to embrace the President’s small stock initiative.

Ms Manake also encouraged small stock farmers to utilise government programmes such as LIMID, where farmers could be assisted in drilling boreholes for watering their livestock.

Ngamiland district agriculture coordinator, Mr Kenneth Mabote said Ms Maundo benefited from the poverty eradication programme in 2017.

He said the beneficiary in 2019 started selling some of her stock and managed to build herself a one roomed house.

Ms Maundo was also said to have saved money from goat sales that she would use to build better and durable kraal.

For her part, Ms Maundo thanked Dr Masisi for the noble gesture, noting that the donation meant a lot to her and the family.

She however decried lack of watering points for her livestock in the area. ENDS
