President wishes Batswana well

10 Dec 2020

President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi wishes Batswana a prosperous and wealthy life-span.

Speaking during a donation of a Boer buck named Tswelelopele to Mr Ellias Hambira at Tshwaragano Syndicate cattle post in Draihoek on Tuesday, Dr Masisi expressed the wish for every Motswana to be prosperous and wealthy throughout the days of their lives, saying if all Batswana amassed wealth then the whole country would be rich.

He said it was against this backdrop that he came up with the initiative to peddle economic development that would in turn make the country rich and share the cake in an all-inclusive approach.

President also expressed gratitude to have had the opportunity to visit the cattle post, adding that with the Boer buck donation Mr Hambira’s life and that of his family would never be the same again as the donation would catapult him to another farming level.

President Masisi, who is a champion of Vision 2036, has set out a vision for a prosperous future for all.

He said the small stock initiative was in line with the national vision, and that he drove the pillar of sustainable economic development as well as human and social development, adding that what he was doing for Mr Hambira would generate wealth for him and other fellow citizens.

He said the Boer buck donation had placed Mr Hambira on another level of wealth creation, and he expressed the wish for others to emulate him.

Dr Masisi challenged Mr Hambira to soar in small stock production in the area through the Boer buck donated to him.

The President’s small stock initiative also assists in driving the country’s goal of food and nutrition security as well as poverty eradication.

Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security, Mr Karabo Gare, who accompanied the President, said the donation meant an increment in small stock population and quality of carcasses.

He said small stock had the potential to change the economic landscape of the country, and had over the years changed the lives of many for the better.

He was of the view that the President’s small stock initiative ensured that there was continuity in production of small stock, adding that Mr Hambira’s project needed support from the ministry to ensure optimum output.

The MP for Kgalagadi South, Mr Sam Brooks thanked President Masisi for the noble gesture and opined that when donating the Boer buck, the President was cognizant of the hard work, commitment and energy invested by Mr Hambira into his project.

Mr Brooks, however, decried cross-border livestock theft in the area, saying there was need to come up with innovative ways to counteract the situation.

Mr Hambira is a major supplier of the Livestock Management and Infrastructure Development (LIMID) programme with small stock.

He is also known in the area for producing quality sour milk which he sells to augment proceeds from selling small stock meat.

Receiving the donation, Mr Hambira was lost for words due to happiness.

He promised the President that he would take care of the buck which he described as a unique resource.

He wished the President well and wished God to bless him abundantly as well as preserving him so as to continue taking good care of Batswana. BOPA
