Letshego employees donate

Letshego Holdings Limited employees have donated goods worth over P22 000 to two beneficiaries in Maun’s Thito ward.
Mr Obonye Nxhiki received four donkeys and a cart while Ms Ipontsheng Sesonda received food hampers and had her two-roomed house painted. Speaking during the hand-over of the donation, Letshego regional business development officer, Mr Kabelo Sethomo said their assistance to the needy was a response to the President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama’s call to uproot poverty among communities.
He said Letshego set aside one per cent of its profit after tax for use in its social responsibility programme. Mr Sethomo said every September the company’s employees interacted with communities through a Make A Difference Day whose aim was to engage various community projects.
“We strongly believe that charity is more than giving money to the poor. It is giving of hearts, time, talents and energies to lighten the lives of others,” he said. He said those who benefited were decided at a district level under the guidance of social workers. He thanked all who participated to make the event a success.
The house for the Sesonda family was built by Ms Marriam Mosiane who requested Letshego to do the final touches such as painting. Mr Sethomo thanked her for demonstrating love and care for the needy in society. Some elders who graced the event expressed appreciation for individuals and businesses that had answered government initiatives such as poverty eradication and presidential housing appeal.
One of the elders, Mr Gaorongwe Molaletsi said it was encouraging to see many enterprises sowing back to the community to augment government efforts to uplift the living standards of the less privileged. He commended Letshego employees for a job well done. The elders also commended Ms Mosiane for ensuring that the Sesonda family had a habitable house. Giving a background of the project, Ms Mosiane said she realised the need of Ms Ipontsheng Sesonda, a blind churchmate and offered to build her a two-roomed house.
She managed to put up the structure through assistance from her family, relatives and different business partnerships who donated in kind. Before the house was built the family, which comprises six people, lived in a tent. Ms Mosiane said since the house was not complete she submitted a request to Letshego to assist and they agreed to paint the house and also donate food hampers.
She praised the company for their good gesture. Ward councillor Mr Mmoedi Modiegi thanked Letshego employees and Ms Mosiane for their generosity and said government appreciated efforts of its partners in development to transform lives. Mr Modiegi urged the beneficiaries to take good care of the donations. ENDS
