Ipelegeng programme coordinator for Mahalapye Sub-district Council, Mrs Maipelo Ntesang, says Ipelegeng projects had been ongoing, despite financial challenges.
Speaking during a council session in Mahalapye, she said Ipelegeng had planned to implement 314 projects for the year 2020/2021 including litter picking, grass cutting, cleaning of dumping sites and cemeteries, and sweeping of roads.
“Paving of Mahalapye bus rank and construction of water closet at Moineedi Primary School in Taupye are part of the 2020/2021 projects,” she said.
She explained that the labour intensive projects which started in September 2020 and were now at 28% progress while cleaning and cooking service projects started in June and were at 50%. For the month of October only, she said 4 024 beneficiaries were employed; 3 140 females and 884 males in the Sub District.
“Delayed disbursement of program funds and shortage of building materials are part of the challenges we encounter in the program,” she explained.
As remedial measures for challenges faced, Ms Ntesang stated that they will continue requesting for funds and borrowing materials from other departments.
Councillors raised concerns on delayed Ipegeleng payments and lack of communication whenever there were delays. ends
