MP urges public officers to improve service delivery

25 Sep 2013

Mahalpye West MP, Mr Bernard Bolele has urged public officers in the sub-district to serve the public with diligence.

He said this when addressing heads of departments on September 23. Mr Bolele said although officers worked within the limitations of budgets, resources and could not satisfy every customer, they needed to develop a clear communication channel for their clients.

He said the general perception was that government employees were sleeping on the job and it was up to them to change that view. He said if employees explained shortcomings with botho and strove for excellence, customers would understand.

Public officers should change their attitudes, mindsets and start serving with a smile and treat all people with courtesy. Mr Bolele also called for a better public relations strategy whereby services such as those under the social and welfare policies could be explained to the public. He gave as an example the fact that people were removed from programme and failure to explain it became a political problem.

For their part, the public servants complained that while they worked hard, their efforts were thwarted by some politicians who distrusted them and took to controlling their offices. This resulted in the public losing trust in them as they now could not deliver. ENDS
