Unnecessary travel worries chairperson

South East South Sub-district (SESSD) council chairperson, Ms Semakaleng Sebogodi has cautioned south east community against unnecessary travel during the festive period.
Addressing a sub-council session in Ramotswa on Monday, Ms Sebogodi, who is also councilor for Sepitswana ward in Ramotswa, said unnecessary travels could result in a surge of COVID-19 cases.
Therefore, she said the community ought to break the tradition of traveling if such travel was not necessary, so as to protect themselves and their loved ones from the pandemic.
As for those traveling, Ms Sebogodi pleaded with them to observe the COVID-19 protocols, saying that was the only remedy for now.
She cautioned the SESSD community, which comprise of residents of Ramotswa, Taung, Mogobane and Otse, that the sub-district had so far recorded 191 COVID-19 cases.
Ms Sebogodi said out of those cases, 24 were learners which showed that COVID-19 pandemic was within schools.
Hence she urged residents to protect themselves against the virus and further informed the meeting that COVID-19 surveillance was ongoing within the sub-district.
Still on COVID related issues, she said the sub-council had spent about P5.3 million of its recurrent budget to help residents against the impact of the pandemic.
She said the council had already received over P1 million as reimbursement and they were hopeful to receive the remaining balance in the near future.
On other constituency issues, Councilor Sebogodi told the sub-council session that ongoing paving of internal roads through constituency projects was progressing well.
Ms Sebogodi cited the paving of Lesetlhana road and Kgosing road as some of those which progressed well, adding that the projects were finished within time and budget.
Further, she said there was P8 million from the road levy which would also be used for the improvement of the sub-district’s roads.
Despite the ongoing efforts, Ms Sebogodi acknowledged that the sub-district was still faced with problems of roads.
Hence she emphasized that the sub-council was committed to improving the conditions of the roads within its jurisdiction. ENDS
