Relocation to Qhorotsha settlement February
24 Nov 2020
Relocation to the newly established Qhorotsha settlement will start February next year.
A plan was made to start the exercise in winter this year, but failed to take off due to the COVID-19 pandemic, members of District Development Committee (DDC) have learnt.
Updating DDC meeting Monday, North West District deputy council secretary, Mr Gobe Modongo, said a total of 341 beneficiaries and 25 households had been mobilised and assessed for relocating to Qhorotsha settlement.
The settlement is situated on the western side of Kareng, 30km away from Qabo in the Ghanzi District.
It was conceived as a Presidential decision to accommodate about 300 people so that they access basic services in the Rural Area Dwellers (RADs) category.
The settlement would specifically target about 341 people, currently squatting in the Qhorotsha area, around boreholes/cattleposts of Splanplek, Romane, Mathomahibidu, Xoga, Kawekeno and Masogwana in Ngamiland.
In preparation for the relocation, Mr Modongo said a layout plan was done by Tawana Land board consisting of 660 plots.
“The layout plan includes 600 residential plots, 15 commercial plots, 22 institutional and open spaces, three ploughing fields and 20 industrial plots,” he explained, further reporting that the plan was approved by Town and Country Planning during its sitting in October 2013.
The meeting also learnt that a lot of developments had been undertaken at the area.
Some of the current developments completed include 18 housing units for destitute persons which are said to be ready for occupation.
The meeting also learnt that five more houses were awarded to contractors for the financial year 2020/21.
Other developments included construction of cattle kraals and loading ramp, drilling and equipping of borehole which was completed last year.
The borehole was said to be non-operational but Mr Modongo said the council was working on it and it was expected to be operational by end of this month. Ends
