Ministry deliberates on performance improvement issues

The Ministry of Transport and Communications officials on Wednesday converged at Cresta Hotel in Mahalapye to deliberate on key issues of how the ministry could improve its performance for effective service delivery to the public.
The three-day strategic meeting was held under the theme: Working together towards a common goal.
Speaking at the meeting, the Ministry of Transport and Communications Corporate Services deputy permanent secretary said it was befitting for the ministry management officials, to once in a while join heads to discuss, introspect and learn new ways of improving performance and service delivery.
Doing so, Ms Dimpho Marange said would help the ministry serve customers well and ensure sustainability in performance management.As a way forward, the deputy permanent secretary urged all managers to start group reviews with staff, ensure all eligible staff had signed 2020/2021 Performance Development Plans (PDPs) and were reviewed every quarter without fail.
“The evidence of such should be forwarded to me through the office of the Performance Improvement Coordinator,” she said.
She encouraged ministry management officials to instill positivity amongst staff by acknowledging success, walking the talk and coaching to improve efficiency.
Ms Marange also emphasised the importance of living the ministry’s values of reliability, accountability and team work.
Quality and effective service delivery to customers, she said required the ministry staff to work together as a group towards a common goal.
The ministry’s Performance Improvement Coordinator (PIC), Ms Gladys Ngwebula said the objectives of the meeting included among others; ensuring quality performance review reports, capacitating of deputy directors on Performance Management System (PMS) as well as to instill understanding of all government reporting tools and how ministry can improve service delivery to the public.
Additionally, Ms Ngwebulla said the forum was meant to ensure alignment of director’s performance agreement with other performance tools and instill understanding on Conducting Group Reviews and share roles and expectations. ends
