19 Nov 2020

Innovative Process Solutions (IPS), Managing Director, Mr Neal Debeer has promised to deliver a world class multispecies abattoir to the Tsabong community.

Speaking during a site handing over ceremony in Tsabong on Wednesday, Mr Debeer said the company would deliver an export rated facility, which had been designed to supply meat locally and internationally.

He said the abattoir would create employment opportunities.

He appreciated that progress was finally being made on the P161 million project, which had been on the cards for a long time.

Mr Debeer said they were looking forward to working with the Tsabong community.

Deputy facilities manager at the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Security, Mr Jonathan Maphepha said the project was set on a four-hectare plot.

Mr Maphepha said a technical committee and project teams had been formed to manage the project during the 18 months of construction.

For his part, Tsabong sub-district assistant district commissioner, Mr Thusang Nyoni said the project, which started in 2014, did not take off as planned due to challenges such as lack of financial resources and changes in project scope from a small stock abattoir to a state of the art multispecies abattoir.

Further, Mr Nyoni said once complete, the multispecies abattoir was expected to slaughter 40-60 species per day.

He said they were happy that the project was finally commencing, adding that their expectation was that it would not only serve the region, but the nation as a whole.

“We are hopeful that the project would boost the Kgalagadi district economy,” he said.

The assistant district commissioner pledged support to the contractor and encouraged all stakeholders to join hands to ensure that the project was completed within scope, on budget and time. Ends
