15 Nov 2020

The  Ministry of Basic Education is aware of the shortages of textbooks, furniture and internet connection in the three primary schools and junior secondary schools in Gaborone Bonnington South Constituency.

This was said by the Assistant Minister of Basic Education, Ms Nnaniki Makwinja, when answering a question in Parliament.

Ms Makwinja further said the average availability of primary level text books in the Gaborone Bonnington South Constituency schools was 42.4 per cent while for Junior Secondary text books was 21 per cent.

She explained that in the interim, the regional office had placed orders for primary level text books and the books were currently being delivered to schools.

Ms Makwinja also said the provision of pupils tables and chairs was generally adequate since the introduction of shifting with the exception of Tlhabologo Primary School.

She added that teachers’ furniture was generally old and in need of replacement, however, all schools had internet connectivity although the footprint in the schools was limited and needed to be extended across the whole of the schools’ academic areas.

“My ministry will continue to address these shortages in conjunction with our sister Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development as funds permit,” she said.

The Assistant Minister was answering a question from Gaborone Bonnington South MP, Mr Christian Greeff, who had wanted an update on the shortage of textbooks, furniture, internet connection and tables in the three primary schools in Gaborone Bonnington South Constituency and to state how the situation would be addressed.
