Nzano Mall Super Spar donated clothes and toiletries to Lephoi Centre for the Blind in Francistown on November 11.
The retail store also donated garden tools to the centre’s vegetable garden.
Nzano Spar assistant manager, Ms Chinga Lopang, said the donation was not only the shop’s way of giving back to the community, but to also support vulnerable members of society.
Ms Lopang said Spar was concerned about lives of the underprivileged members of society, hence donating to Lephoi Centre.
She explained that Spar employees had embarked on a number of activities to raise funds for the donations, indicating that the donation was the beginning of a partnership between Nzano Super Spar and Lephoi Centre for the Blind.
The centre’s coordinator, Mr Ephraim Ngoma, explained that they were faced with a number of challenges, especially financial resources to undertake certain projects He stated that they had P20 million worth of projects to undertake, which could enable the centre to expose its learners to various means of making a living, but they did not have the resources.
Mr Ngoma revealed that the centre, which is managed by UCCSA, had projects such as poultry production and vegetable gardening.
He thanked Nzano Super Spar for the donations, promising that they would be put to good use.
A social worker at the Centre, Ms Nyanyaidzani Kgomotso-David appealed to the management of Spar to be leaders in advocating for people living with disabilities, such as the visually impaired.
She explained that most of people with disabilities never got proper assistance in retail shops.
Ms Kgomotso-David also appealed to the employees of Spar to inform them of any visually impaired young learners in their communities, so that they could be registered with the centre. ends
