Parents should play role

24 Sep 2013

Francistown Senior Secondary School Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) treasurer, Mr Gerald Hulela has called on parents to play their role towards the education of their children.

Speaking at a prize giving ceremony for Francistown Senior Secondary School, Mr Hulela said education could not reach its mandate if one of the stakeholders was still lagging behind. He said today`s education required every party to play their role if they were to reach one of the pillars of Vision 2016 of an educated and informed nation.

Mr Hulela said for a nation to be informed, it did not only mean it should be only focused on being educated, but rather its citizens should be in a better position to help their children overcome the challenges experienced at school and the environment that may hinder their studies.

He noted that today’s generation was prone to pressures that might negatively affect their education such as the alarming use of drugs and abuse of alcohol, hence a partnership with all stakeholders would help put students in a better position.

Mr Hulela further encouraged parents who were reluctant in their students’ education to start developing interest and help to mould the children to have a better future, which would help them to be responsible adults. He said education was a heritage that students should fully embrace as it would later help them get a better job.

Furthermore, he applauded teachers for the role they played in educating students, which he said could produce positive results if all stakeholders including students play their part.

For his, the parts sales manager for General Motors, Jan Neveling said education was an important aspect that a community cannot live without, noting that if people were not educated they will fail to reach their goals and objectives in life.

He said for civilization to have taken place, there were those who dedicated their lives to see it to come into fruition and for them to reach their goal, education was mandatory.

Mr Neveling highlighted that education brought about citizens who could later on be businessmen who would fight poverty and bring about self-reliance. Furthermore, he added that whatever desire students want to have, education is the vehicle to help them archive it. ENDS
